The international live art biennale Là-bas→
Concept of Performance is the most extensive contemporary gathering of performance and sound art, media performances, action poetry, live video and installations occurring in Finland.
In the different spaces and places of the Biennale, new forms of experimental bodily art implode
into their most essential manifestations and occupations of unclaimed territory.
These performances and works are connected by their bodily, visual and audio elements and conceptual
relations within their material, objects, instruments, audience, time, environment, space and location.
This Biennale is a journey for both its participants and its audience. The festival features more than 50 performances and other live works utilizing various media, approaches, appliances and structures.
In addition to solo performances, many of the works are also communal and/or collective performances and site-specific social experiments in public space.
The main events of the Biennale occur in Helsinki, Wednesday 25 – Sunday 29 April, in urban outdoor spaces of Helsinki's centre, Contemporary Art Museum Kiasma, Kattilahalli and
Performance Center in Suvilahti, Ylioppilasteatteri, Gallery Augusta in Suomenlinna and
on the island of Harakka.
The Biennale events in other locations and spaces begin from April 21 on. In Helsinki, Janne Särkelä's installation exhibition in Sound Art Gallery Akusmata (Tukholmankatu 7 A, Meilahti) is opened on Saturday 21 April, 6 pm. The sound installation is live Sunday 22 – Saturday 28 April,
12 am – 2 pm (more info: akusmata.com).
The four excursions of the Biennale to other cities feature some of the international artists who perform Helsinki along with other participants. These events are as follows: Vaasa, Sunday 22

Some of the Biennale artists also work in art schools with students during the Biennale week.
The world famous performance artist and teacher Alastair MacLennan from Northern Ireland
will do a two-day workshop at Theatre Academy on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 April, 10 am – 3 pm (more info: anna.nybondas@teak.fi).
In addition to the workshop, MacLennan gives a public lecture at Kiasma’s seminar room on
Saturday 28 April, 10 am. The Biennale also includes two discussions on concepts and practices of contemporary performance and live art in the context of the events that are happening inside and outside of this festival. These debates, introduced by Artur Tajber and Irma Optimist, take place on
Wednesday 25 April at Kiasma Seminar Room and on Sunday 29 April at the auditorium of the main
building of the island of Harakka.
