REGIONAL CONSULTATION (open to members of the public)

SEPTEMBER 29, 1998

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has initiated an
international process to develop recommendations on the intellectual
property issues associated with Internet domain names, including dispute
resolution. The recommendations resulting from the WIPO Internet Domain
Name Process will be made available to the non-profit organization that
is being formed to manage the technical and policy aspects of the
Internet domain name system (DNS).

The WIPO Internet Domain Name Process aims at developing consensus among
all Internet stakeholders, with the widest possible geographical and
sectoral participation, including representatives of the business,
trademark, Internet engineering and public interest communities. An
important part of this work, to be carried out in parallel with
Internet-based consultations, will be a number of regional
consultations, to be held in North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia
and the Pacific and Europe. All information regarding the Process is
available at http://wipo2.wipo.int
Each consultation will last one day and will be open to all members of
the public, free of charge. Participation can take two forms: (1)
attendance and participation in the open discussion that will take
place, or (2) presentation of Statements. A timetable of all
consultations is available at
