It may be of interest to European subscribers to this list serv that there is
a proposed tariff by the performing rights organization in Canada for the use
of music on the Internet. If the Canadian Copyright Board sets a tariff (and
it will probably several more months before it decides on its action), the
performing rights for music on the 'net will have to be paid for -- that
means if your library as a website with music -- you will have to pay for it.

One of the interesting questions with this issue is how far the tariff will
go considering there are no boundaries on the Internet. Will only music
uploaded or downloaded from Canada be subject to the tariff?
