Subject: News on February 12

Dear CELIP colleagues
First I want to express that I am pleased: we are all now at the CELIP
intranet mailing list. Fine indeed!
In this message:
- Rightowner representatives to be invited to Prague
- CELIP enqueries back
- Hotel in the Prague SG meeting
- Workshop dates
- Material to be used in the workshops
- Sub-contracts
- My new street address from 1 March 2001 on
1. Rightowner representative meeting
I am worried about finding rightowner representatives to the rightowner
meeting! I urge you to make suggestions, I still have only one candidate
from the CELIP countries. There will be some Czech guests as well as
representatives of European and international organisations. But this
would be a good opportunity to train your national partners as well - I
think it would be your own advantage for future, too.
I wait for your ideas, and then for the addresses of persons or
organisations to be invited.
2. Enqueries back!
Further, I now begin to wait for your replies to the CELIP enquery. I have
to make the second two-months report for the European Commission after
February, and there I should include something about this situation. I
also make an article about CELIP for EBLIDA's Information Europe, and
would like to report something there, too.
3. Hotel in Prague
I have agreed with Hotel Olga about our stay in Prague at our mid-June
meeting; this concerns also the representatves of the rightowners. I'll be
in Prague at the end of February for an IFLA meeting, and will then meet
Mr. Trapitek in Hotel Olga to discuss about practical matters. After that
I'll inform you, how to confirm the hotel reservation. But I recommend to
reserve flights in good time, Prague is very popular and there seems to be
some bigger events in that weekend!
The hotel is well located, 10 minutes from the National Library by tram,
the preliminary price is reasonable as well (65.- USD).
4. Workshop dates
The following dates for workshops are now confirmed:
- 23-24 April Bucharest
- 22 May Vilnius
- 28 May Prague
- 4 June Sofia
- 19 June Zilina (Slovakia)
- 19 September Tallinn
Thus, half of the dates have been fixed. It seems the rest will be
organised in Autumn, which is OK for me. But ATTN: My IFLA travel has now
grown longer from my original plans: Chicago Public Library has invited me
to be one of their 2001 Scholar in Residence which means a three-days
programme in Chicago after the IFLA conference (I am quite proud of
this!). I'll be back in Helsinki only at the 1st of September.
A practical question: for the planned IFLA Poster Session, some photos
would be needed. Is any of the first workshop organisers planning
photographying for their journal or website? Still better if the photos
would be digital, they could be added to the CELIP web page. I myself am
not a photographer, I own no camera. But if someone will take photos in
Bucharest, Vilnius, Prague, Sofia or Zilina, I would be very pleased to
get a few copies of them! (It will ofcourse serve as an advertisement for
the concerned library association as well...)
5. Material to be translated
I have been working with the material to be sent to the partner
associations for possible translations. The basic article is in practive
ready except the language control. Yong-Gi will put it on the website,
from where you can print it. I guess this would happen on Thursday this
week. I am still working with the transparencies - the problem is that I
have too much material.
6. Sub-contracts
I heard from Teresa last week that the sub-contracts are also in practice
ready, but due to an illness case in the office they were not sent to you
last week. Probably it will happen this week, too.
I once more repeat that Teresa has been extremely busy - and done a very
good job - with the copyright directive lobbying. The last voting will be
tomorrow, Tue 13 February. We will be informed about the result as soon as
possible via the Ecup mailing list.
