This work by the Greek company Sinequanon and its choreographer Apostolia Papadamaki is about the journey from the human isolation and lack of communication to the "garden of hopes" where individuality is accepted and community created. The white stage is dominated by a crystal forest that hangs suspended from the ceiling, in and under which cinetic figures dressed in varying shapes dance to the beat of live music, first passing each other and then together, attracted to the vibrant centre of the crystal forest.

Jarden was premiered at the Rome Biennale in June 1999. Since then it has been performed at festivals in Greece and at the French platform of the Bagnolet choreography competition. Jarden has been commended for its overall artistic structure, the way it combines dance, live music, lighting, stage and dress design.

The music for the piece was composed by Dimitris Dessyllas, who also performs it onstage. Sinequanon was awarded the prize for "the best dance performance music" for Jarden by the Greek Ministry of Cultural Affairs in 1999.

Sinequanon was founded by the choreographer Apostolia Papadamaki in 1992. It is one of the few Greek contemporary dance companies to have achieved international renown. Puster Keaton, Papadamaki's latest piece for the company, has this year toured festivals in Italy, Spain and Poland. Papadamaki's choreography is characterised by musical ambitiousness, particularly when it comes to using modern live music in the performances. The choreographer has collaborated extensively with the musician-composer Dimitris Dessyllas. The talents of both of these artists were evident in the earlier performances in Finland, at the Full Moon Dance in Pyhäjärvi and in the exhange project Xenakis: An Homage, performed at Stoa during the Helsinki Festival.
