HTML -HyperText Markup Language

HTML is markup language defined with SGML DTD and is used in Worl Wide Web. WWW -browsers like Netscape interpret HTML tags and format document to the screen. Headings are rendered with bigger font size than text paragraphs, lists are indended from left and if document contains images (references to images), image is shown on the screen if possible.

Most important thing in HTML are hypertext references (links). Browsers interpret link tags in the source document so that they are rendered with different color to the screen and when user clicks link, browser opens referenced document from address given in link tag.

HTML files are ASCII -text, so they can be easily interchanged between different operating systems and edited with any text editor.
