The history of catalogues of Finnish sound recordings is quite complicated. The following overview contains the main sources in chronological order.

- Quite comprehensive catalogue of Finnish sound recordings 1902-1982 (recordings by Finnish performers & composers published outside Finland have been excluded). One of the earliest national discographies in the world. Urpo Haapanen, Rainer Strömmer and Arto Kylänpää have continued this work with up-dated editions. The discographies contain important statistics and surveys, mostly by Pekka Gronow. There are separately published indices covering the years 1902-1982.

- From 1983 on the discography of legal deposit collections has been taken care by the Jyväskylä University Library. The annual catalogues have been published in two volumes: main catalogue and indices. The cataloguing has been done from the legal deposit collection. The catalogue does not cover all non-musical recordings, advertisement recordings or Fennica recordings published outside Finland. Catalogues 1983-1991 are also available via Internet.
