THE REINDEER BITERS
An original tragi-comedy in two acts by Jussi Wahlgren Copyright 1996 &
2000
SYNOPSIS
My new black comedy "THE REINDEER BITERS" had a succesful run in New York,
Grove Street Playhouse, in February 2000.
The reviewer for Off Off Broadway Magazine, Doug De Vita, gives the play a
title "Jingle Balls - a lacerating statement by the Finnish playwright.".
He also writes that "Wahlgren absolutely has his finger on the pulse of
contemporary values"
Doug De Vita pitches the play as follows:"Patrik Lindberg, a doctor at the
University of Helsinki, is married to the dying LEA and is being supported
in his research by EVA DAMALSKI, a professor who will sleep with just
about enybody. LEA is having an affair with PATRIK's best friend, JOHAN,
who is married to the surgeon KRISTINA, a frigid bitch who steals PATRIK's
research plan and with whom PATRIK inexplicably wants to have an affair.
In short, everyone is screwing everyone else, both figuratively and
literally and often at the same time."
THE REINDEER BITERS is said to cover much the same territory as Albee's
"WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOLFF" and Marber's "CLOSER" (Doug De Vita).
Professor Lorne Colub, State University of New York, said after the
opening: "The Reindeer Biters expand on the one similar theme (re:
Virginia Wolff), that is the defilitating gamble that academics must play
to succeed."
