The study concentrates on the Committee on Amnesty of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission established in the post-apartheid South Africa. It consists of two parts. The first is an elaborate description and analysis of the Committee, the second is an in-depth analysis of the international legal situation concerning amnesty. The study concludes by finding that in particular when it comes to providing remedies to the victims of apartheid, the Amnesty Committee may not meet all the requirements that are laid down in the pertinent international legal provisions.
