EU Citizenship in Focus: The Legal
Position of the Individual in EC Law
Pomoell, Jutta
Erik Castrén Institute Research Reports 4/1999 Forum Iuris
Helsinki 2000.
The research synthesises the legal and
moral aspects of the still rather elusive idea of European
citizenship. It examines the various provisions of EC law and
all case law relevant to a full understanding of the concept
of European citizenship. It traces the rights of Union
citizens from the free movement of persons to social, civil
and political rights. Special emphasis is put on the
presentation of the complex regulation of the free movement of
persons in the Union. Focus is on the frontier: how does
citizenship work as a mechanism not only of inclusion, but
also of exclusion? The study concludes by proposing
alternative developments for Union citizenship.
