Subject: EC study to analyse Directive implementation

The European Commission has recently published an invitation to tender for
a study. This study should look at the transposition and application of the
following three directives in the member states:
1. Rental and Lending Right Directive (1992)
2. Satellite and Cable Directive (1993)
3. Terms of Protection of Copyright Directive (1993)
The study, to be completed within 12 months, should analyse the
transposition of these directives in national law to "ensure the effective
establishment of the internal market in intellectual property and to
guarantee adequate protection of exclusive rights".
This is part of the normal procedure. Each of these Directives contains an
article that asks the Commission to submit by a certain date to the
European Parliament, the Council and the Economic and Social Committee a
report on the application of this Directive and, if necessary, make further
proposals to adapt it to developments in the sector.
