Dear list members,
The EU Directive on the legal protection of databases, adopted on 11 March
1996, was supposed to be implemented by the Member States by 1 January 1998.
Please find below for your information an overview of the implementation
dates in the different EU member states. Only 4 out of 15 met the deadline.
Austria: 1 January 1998
Belgium: not yet
Denmark: 1 July 1998
Finland: not yet (probably after summer break Parliament)
France: adopted by Parliament on 16 June 1998
Germany: 1 January 1998
Greece: not yet
Ireland: not yet (probably by July draft legislation ready)
Italy: not yet (probably Oct/Nov. 1998)
Luxembourg: not yet (waiting for approval Parliament)
Netherlands: not yet (only after summer Parliament will have first debate)
Portugal: not yet (will still take some months)
Spain: 1 April 1998
Sweden: 1 January 1998
United Kingdom: 1 January 1998
