The COPEARMS Consortium invites you to attend a free day of Electronic
Copyright Management Systems discussions and presentations
ECMS: Help or hindrance to availability of electronic information
The COPEARMS Consortium is holding a Special Interest Group meeting
and workshop in Athens on 20 October.
The morning will involve presentations from COPEARMS Partners about
general Electronic Copyright Management Systems (ECMS)issues
(including security and legal concerns); the assistance that can be
provided by the COPEARMS Consortium; and ECMS implementation. There
will also be the opportunity for delegates to give a short
presentation about any projects with which they are involved.
During the afternoon we will be discussing the role of ECMS in the
electronic era. We will be using two scenarios showing different views
of the future. These will to discussions on subjects such as
interoperability, suitability of ECMS as a protection mechanism, and,
undoubtedly to the debates about rights and exceptions such as fair
dealing and charging for access. The afternoon session will be
The COPEARMS Project has been working closely with another ESPRIT
Project - IMPRIMATUR which is concerned, among other things with
building consensus as to how intellectual property rights should be
handled in an electronic environment. The views expressed at the
workshop will be passed (anonymously) to the IMPRIMATUR Project to
form part of the consensus building process.
Both events will be free of charge with lunch and light refreshments
