The Conservatory is located in an old ropeworks building from 1934 and in a dockyard from 1928. An outside forum for art schools, Varvintori Square, was built on the banks of the Aurajoki river.
The teaching facilities are in the ropeworks building. A chamber music hall seating 400 people with adjoining utility space, examination halls and the library were built within the dockyard building. The essential structures of the building under its former use, such as bridge cranes, were utilised in planning the new interior structures in the dockyard building.
