The Folk Art Centre is an international information, education and research centre for Finnish folk culture. The central space of the building, the music hall for 400 people, and part of the exhibition area are situated inside the natural bedrock. The visible building masses form architecturally precise and delicate boxes. A pedestrian gangway stretching above the building connects the dance pavillion to the cultural pedestrian walk beginning further down. There is also direct access from the stairway to the administrative and teaching permises situated in the storeys occupied by the Folk Art Centre.
