The Hangar was designed by Elis Hyvärinen in 1935 for the Ministry of Defence, and is one of the protected buildings in the Immola barracks area. Because of its original purpose, the hangar had no piers in the middle, and the roof was supported by 41-metre long steel trusses. These trusses, along with the elevations, is the most valuable feature in the building.

The conversion of the uninsulated hangar building into a warm repair and storage facility was solved by placing the warm spaces inside the unheated hangar with a 'building within a building' principle. This way the openes of the building could be preserved and the difficult task of the thermal insulation of the roof be avoided.
