The site is divided in such a way that almost all flats and outer recreation areas face south, maximizing use of solar energy. Another important principle is the unified and continuous green area system consisting of different biotypes. It is placed in small green fingers between the flats and row houses.

The City of Helsinki has defined binding criteria for ecological construction for the homes of 1.700 new inhabitants, consistent with the original competition programme.
