From the approach to the airport terminal area the car park, holding more than 2000 cars, shows only as a two-storey high, steel-covered, gently curving surface. More than half of the seven storeys of the building have been cut out of the rock. Vehicles entering and leaving are led through a concrete bridge splitting the central cavity. From the parking levels, passengers walk to the Domestic Terminal through a pedestrian tunnel. The facades were covered with ground, stainless, perforated sheet metal casettes that change appearance under different illuminations and when seen from different angles. The perforated sheet also facilitated compliance with the fire safety regulations for the structures above the ground - the building is open and easily ventilated.
