The Helsinki Festival needed an activity centre which would lend its own, strongly visual label to the urban landscape for the two weeks of its duration. The tent structure was a natural solution, as it possessed a lively, original outlook, was economical, and could be used more than once. The site needed on the one hand to be protected from traffic noise, while on the other hand being far from any residential areas. The Tokoinranta park by the Eläintarhanlahti bay filled these conditions. The restaurant tent is bright yellow, and the concert tent white and dark grey. The wooden, terraced floor which follows the outline of the terrain was built as separate elements. The park bears no visible signs of the tent, since both footings and anchors are covered by the lawn. The tent building is erected every year for the summer festival, and then stored again during the winter.
