The Science Park of Helsinki turns the University area in Viikki into a versatile biotechnical science park containing not only departments of the University, but also the research and product development units of various companies. The scale of the first block takes account of the landscape of the old Latokartano area by terracing the mass on the side of Viikinkaari street.

Each unit houses different options. There are rooms for the research workers, the service area, and the laboratories. Within the curved form of Viikinkaari street are located common areas such as the student laboratories and administrative facilities. The library and dining hall are situated at the two ends of the building, separate from the other activities.
