According to the plan, the University is to be developed in four construction stages and two expansion stages. The new buildings will be loosely grouped around three yards. In the centre will be the library.
As traditional in continental Europe, the University of Vaasa is situated in the heart of the town. When completed, the university plan will also continue the tradition of the closed yards of Ostrobothnian farm houses. The first construction stage includes the main building, the administration building, the entrance square and the necessary parking spaces. Red brick is used for the elevations of the new buildings of the University. Together with the old industrial buildings in the area they form the redbrick campus. A wall of carrara bianca marble enhances the entrance.
