WelcomeEko.fi is an internet magazine published by the Green Cultural Association with focus on ecological philosophy and environmental thinking. It is a culturally critical and open forum, where academic thinkers as well as environmentally interested at grass root level can meet and discuss with one another. We hope that this kind of interaction helps to perceive the reasons for global environmental problems and the changeing of the world, as we know it, from many different angles. We also hope that, by this interaction, answers will be found to the question of how to replace the insatiable need of people and nature to consume, without considering the consequences, by an ethically, ecologically and sociologically sound practice. The first issue of this magazine appeared in the spring of 1997. The concept as well as the visual- and interface design, were produced by the University of Art & Design, as part of a Media Laboratory diploma work. Although the first issue of eko.fi is for the greater part written in Finnish, it also contains material written in English. From this page you have direct access to pages with English material. Use this English Guide to help you scan through the magazine. You can also put your name down as author and/or designer of contents. In future eko.fi will hopefully become more and more bilingual.
Under this heading you can find all kinds of articles, e.g. Before the end - The Safety of Distance, by David Rothenberg.
PanelVirtual relations with nature - a discussion on communication networks, their expansion and ecology. Addresses are mostly in Finnish, but English contributions are also welcome. The basis for the panel discussion are independent articles, which do not stand in direct opposition to each other. If you have written something on topics such as communication networks, the information society or ecological themes, send your material via e-mail to eko.fi@kaapeli.fi. Your text will then be used as English basis for the panel page discussions.
